Rainy Days and Mondays...

Without diving into the nature of newsrooms, and administrating them I think we can all agree that finding ourselves at cross purposes happens sometimes.

Your data, all your data, everything on that company owned device - isn't yours.

I won't make this a data hygiene rant, but I will start with a diatribe about second most important information that mucks about in this industry. Your credentials, the ones that belong to you (not the ones given to you by the company, or that you borrowed from your ex, I get it, streaming is getting expensive) should not be stored in a company owned account. It isn't yours, and your access is contingent on a sometimes combative relationship remaining amicable forever.

https://1password.com/for-journalism/ - this isn't an endorsement, but free is free. If you happen to use 1Password for work, you may find you have a free family account included already.

There are other options available, some of which also maintain a reputation for responsible management and development. I just know 1Password and figure given the audience for this we should focus on what works.

  1.  Create a personal 1Password account
  2. https://support.1password.com/migrate-1password-account/ - migrate your personal data to that account
  3. Remove all personal data from your work account, and stop saving personal items in your "Private" work vault.
  4. If you have to access personal data on your work device, make sure your credentials are saved to the correct account (1Password does a really good job of giving you the option to save new items in right place)
